Ferrari Powered Toyota on the Track

Not too long ago, Ryan Tuerck, an American professional drifting driver, decided he wanted to build one heck of a project car: a Toyota GT86 powered by a Ferrari 458 engine. This was no easy task, considering the difference in engine sizes. But, after months of building, the car was finished and the GT4586 was created.

Back in November, we saw the car being driven for the first time. Now, in lovely 2017, we get to see the GT4586 drifting on the track for the very first time.

What you’re going to witness in the video below is a little Toyota that’s hooked up to a 4.5-liter V8 engine, capable of 570 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. This power on the GT86 results in spinning tires, smoke and a lot of smiles. Check it out for yourself and try not to smile.

BMW Unveils Their Weirdest Car Yet – HoloActive Touch

At this year’s CES event, one of the hottest items is most definitely autonomous cars. BMW came to the event with a self-driving car of their own.

This new car is what BMW describes as “the latest chapter in a story that began with BMW iDrive.” This new car features the new HoloActive Touch technology, which uses the BMW Head-Up Display, BMW gesture control and new touchscreen functionality. This all results in a “free-floating virtual display which is projected in the area above the center console.” It all sounds a bit weird, but the video below by BMWBLOG perfectly demonstrates how it all works.

Essentially, the car’s touchpad has free-floating projections that the user can “touch” in mid-air. When the system detects the driver’s fingers near the projections, it counts as a “tap” and haptic feedback is provided via ultrasound. If you listen in the video above, you can hear the ultrasound haptic feedback in action.

Through this system, the driver will be able to pinpoint locations where they want the car to drive them. Once a destination is chosen, a few things can happen: the car will let you know if there are ride-share possibilities (people to pick up, like Uber) and, this is the neat one, it will let you chose a movie or show to watch during your trip that fits the length of the trip.

While this car is simply a concept car that will never reach the roads, it at least gives us amazing insight into the future tech that BMW is currently working on.

2017 Ford GT Spotted, Sounds “Interesting”

Now that the first 2017 Ford GT has rolled off of the production line, we will start seeing more and more of these American supercars on the road. In fact, one Redditor, u/Emulsifide, has spotted a GT without camouflage on the roads of Detroit. He notes that he’s seen plenty under camo, but this was his first time seeing one without a veil on the road.

What’s more, when asked about the sounds of the car, he had an interesting response:

It’s interesting sounding. The guy was just cruising along, so it wasn’t loud, but from what I was able to hear for the 10 seconds I saw it, it did sound like a more subdued version of what they’ve been running in Le Mans this year. Very tasteful, but not what you’d expect when you think Ford. Definitely the sound you’d expect when you think hypercar in general though.

At the end of a fun track day, the time must come to put toys away. Loading cars into transport trailers can be a nerve-wracking experience, but one lucky McLaren owner makes it look easy. The P1 LM is the final iteration of the English Hypercar and a street legal version of the GTR. Gone are the air jacks and Lexan windows, and sadly the exhaust has to breathe through catalytic converters. Boost pressure has been increased to make up for the restrictions in order to keep horsepower at 986.  Also included is a tablet with engine tuning software, battery charger, and a 1:8 scale model.

Veteran racer and Indy 500 winner Kenny Brack was behind the wheel for the record-breaking run at Goodwood last year, so it has been rumored that he was chosen to finalize the suspension tuning of the LM at the ‘Ring. Filmed by Supercarsfromeu, we get to see the engineers in action and the battered belly pan of the car. It looks like the front end doesn’t have a lifting system, but nothing beats pushing a race car for a great leg workout. With a dry weight of 3,075 lbs, the double stack trailer has no problem lifting the car, but it might be hard to open the doors once inside. Various contortions must be learned for entry and egress, and they are not glamorous in the slightest. When the Bentayga was first released, Bentley regarded it as the fastest and most powerful SUV in the world. It’s powered b an all-new twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 engine that can produce 600 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque. Yes, that’s that kind of stuff needed in order to become a powerful SUV, unless you’re a Tesla Model X and don’t need gas for power. But, being such a heavy car, how does this power translate in terms of acceleration? According to Bentley, it can jump from 0-60 mph in just 4.0 seconds.

But is that acceleration stat true? YouTuber jorrie2 decided to hop in the passenger seat of a Bentayga and film the SUV’s gauges as it rocketed all the way up to around 124 mph (199 kmh). It’s quite insane to see such a large vehicle accelerate so quick, and do so in pure English style. Launch control has been very prevalent in recent supercars. Heck, even some vehicles like the Jeep SRT’s have launch control. As for the Lamborghini Huracan, it has was the Italian automaker calls “Thrust Mode,” which is essentially just launch control.

To see just how big of a difference thrust mode makes, DragTimes decided to hook their Huracan up with a VBox and record some 0-60 mph runs with and without Thrust Mode activated. Lamborghini notes that the Huracan’s 0-60 mph time is 3.2 seconds, but after watching this video, it’s clear to see that they were quite conservative with those numbers. In fact, the Huracan is much quicker than the official spec sheet claims it to be.

20 Minutes of Super-cars Racing – Video

The Sounds of Heaven

BrianZuk was recently at Shift-S3ctor’s California Airstrip Attack where some of the world’s fastest cars show up to take on the empty, half-mile runway. Dozens of cars, including the new Ferrari 488 GTB, Underground Racing Lamborghini Huracan, McLaren 650S and many more, ripped down the stretch of concrete, putting on an automotive spectacle.

Now, typically when I find these videos, they’re around five minutes long and feature some kind of music. As for this one, it’s 20 minutes long and all you can hear is the sound of the cars’ engines and exhaust putting in work.
